The approximately 20 hectare natural harbor was created after the end of the dredging work in the course of gravel mining with a breakthrough to the Weser. In 1979 the first club jetty was put into operation. Marina Wieltsee, other clubs and a yacht service followed. The municipality of Weyhe acquired the body of water in 2010, renovated the existing marina and leased it to a professional operator.
