The existence of a parish in Wachenheim is believed to have existed since around the 9th century. In 1341 Wachenheim was granted town rights. A late Gothic choir tower church with a three-story tower and a pointed roof is known from a Merian engraving. In 1674 the building was destroyed in the Dutch War and was not rebuilt until 1686. In 1689 the town, the Wachtenburg and the church were destroyed in the War of the Palatinate Succession. In 1711 the reconstruction of the church was completed. In 1715 the dividing wall was built, separating the choir and tower from the nave. In 1859 the nave was demolished and then rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style. The route winds gently through the vines, with views of wide vineyards and the picturesque villages. Sometimes you can smell the scent of grapes in the air, sometimes a gentle wind blows over the fields while the sun makes the vines shine. The route is perfect for relaxed cycling, enjoying the view and discovering a little piece of the Palatinate in every village. A cycling adventure that invites you to take a deep breath - and maybe even to make a spontaneous stop for a glass of wine!

The Wurstmarkt fountain - a real eye-catcher and cult spot in the heart of Bad Dürkheim! It stands in the middle of the square where the famous Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt, the largest wine festival in the world, is celebrated. The fountain charmingly shows scenes from wine growing and the festival itself - from the winemaker to the celebrating market visitor. A short stop at the fountain is always worthwhile: there may not be any wine flowing here, but the atmosphere of the Wurstmarkt is palpable. A piece of Dürkheimer history that wonderfully captures the spirit of the region!

Not recommended when it's raining. Huge puddles tend to form and there's a lot of pollution from agriculture.

Good asphalt to get quickly to the Palatinate Forest or other areas.
