The second highest arch dam in the world is perched at the top of a superb climb from Le Châble, which is easily reached from Champex-Lac via Orsières and Sembrancher. 18km of ascent on a slope that is sometimes gentle, sometimes more demanding with magnificent views. This is the final of the famous Martigny-Mauvoisin hill climb which has been going on for more than 50 years. At the top located at an altitude of 1850 meters, regain strength in the restaurant and admire the imposing dam 247 meters high.

Don't stop at the dam. The other end of the lake is really lovely.

Very busy on weekends as cars can drive up right to the dam.

Really lovely alp meadow. Worth the little sidetour from Tortin. Seems to be rather busy on weekends though.

Nice place to rest and admire the beautiful turquoise color of the lake. The official excursion reaches here but you can continue skirting the lake.

With its crystal clear water, Lac de la Brèche is the perfect place for a quick stop when traveling along the Rhone route. Along the cycle path there are enough places to rest on the natural lakeshore, even in midsummer. One or two jetties also lead into the water there. A small drawback, however, is the nearby motorway and the adjacent golf course.
