Sigmaringen Castle was first mentioned in 1077 in the chronicle of Petershausen Abbey. The oldest parts of the Hohenzollern castle lie hidden beneath the extensive renovations and new constructions of the 17th and 19th centuries. The castle remains that still stand today date from the Hohenstaufen era around 1200 (gatehouse, palace, and keep). Essential castle elements merged with subsequent buildings over the centuries. The origin of the castle buildings is largely identical to the outer curtain wall of the castle.

Historic Building Marstall Building The "Hereditary Prince's Marstall" was a riding school with stables, coach houses, and apartments for princely servants, and was occupied in 1876/77. In 1874, building inspector Josef Laur began the reconstruction of the "Marstall." The riding hall was located in the central section of the imposing building. In 1926, the Princely Court Carpentry Shop was housed in the building, and in 1956, the Princely Hohenzollern Electrical Center. In 1993, the architects August and Agnes Moschkon were commissioned to restore, remodel, and expand the former riding hall. Today, the Marstall building houses the German Post Office, a shop selling art and home accessories, an ice cream parlor, Wilhelms Wine Bar, and the Brauwerk Zoller-Hof theme restaurant.
