The current tower was built from local wood between 1973 and 1975 for DM 60,000 and was inaugurated on May 1, 1975. The Salzkopf Tower had to be closed in 1997 because of considerable damage caused by carpenter ants feeding on supporting pillars. The Salzkopfturm is freely accessible and has an open, 19.4 m high viewing platform, to which a total of 93 steps[3] of a wooden staircase lead.
