This quay used to be called Johanneskai. The current name comes from the real estate and stoneworks owner Leopold Heindl. He was also a member of the state parliament and mayor of Mauthausen (1870 - 1909) and thus one of the most respected people in the town. The roller ferry memorial stone made of Mauthausen granite in the Heindlkai Park still reminds us of the importance of the roller ferry. It was used to transport people and goods from one bank of the Danube to the other. After the new Danube bridge was built, its operation was discontinued in 1961. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp, the market town held a symposium with six European sculptors in 1995. They created sculptures that are set up in the municipal area of Mauthausen. One of them - a monolith with a bicycle - is located on the green area on the Heindlkai. The hole above the handlebars provides a view of the Danube.
