The Rauher Kulm natural forest reserve was established around the summit in 1995 with an area of 76.8 hectares. It lies at an altitude of 830 to 1050 meters on rock and block soils and serves to preserve mixed mountain forests, beech forests and scree forests. The summit rock of the Klosterstein am Vogelsang with its 1,022 meters is adorned with a massive cross. From here you have a wonderful view over the Bavarian Forest to the Großer Arber, Hoher Bogen and many other peaks. To protect against a misstep on the rock, a railing is installed.
