The Wiener Neustadt Canal is a historic shipping canal built between 1797 and 1803, originally used to transport goods such as timber, bricks, and coal from Wiener Neustadt to Vienna. Near Fritz-Radel-Gasse in Korneuburg, only a section of the former canal remains, no longer used for shipping but primarily for recreation and landscaping. With the advent of the railway in the 19th century, the canal gradually lost its importance, and operations were eventually discontinued. Today, the remaining sections of the canal serve as a reminder of an important technical monument of early industrialization and are part of hiking and cycling trails.

The area has now been opened to the public, but it will be closed again for the winter. Today I was able to observe kingfishers, falcons, and a beaver there; it's definitely coming back to life.

I fought against this underpass in the community. It doesn't help cyclists, only trucks, which can speed into the industrial area without any consideration. The design with right-angled corners is also anti-cyclists. A mirror on one side, not on the other. Our mayor is only doing what he absolutely has to. Now a detour sign pointing into the forest, is that even possible?
