Grape Roundabout – Asselheim/Grünstadt 🚴‍♂️ The Asselheim thoroughfare is circling again as we drive past... The symbolic traffic roundabout is located on Weinstraße and points to the town's importance for winemaking. The first thing that catches the eye about this symbolic art is a large, wooden A. This is meant to symbolize the town of Asselheim itself. Hanging from this A is a metal grape, representing Asselheim as a wine-growing region. Only at second glance is it apparent that water is dripping over this grape. This process symbolizes how wine is made from the grapes. Red wine, in particular, is produced in large quantities in Asselheim, as the area around the town is often referred to as the Tuscany of Germany. Protestant Church (1865) + Memorial - Obrigheim 🚴‍♂️ Obrigheim's church was originally built as a chapel. The tower, dating from around 1500, still stands here. The church building was rebuilt in 1865, and an additional story was added to the tower in 1910. 🚴‍♂️ -------------------------------------------------------- Obrigheim's war memorial stands on a raised outer wall in a small green area (former cemetery) next to the church. The group of soldiers commemorates the fallen and missing German soldiers of World War I and World War II with inscriptions bearing the names of the soldiers. 🚴‍♂️

Protestant St. Stephen's Church + Memorial - Albsheim an der Eis 🚴‍♂️ The church, built around 1200, with its striking tower and soldiers' memorial, cannot be overlooked. The building, including its nave, was rebuilt into its current form around 1515. Interesting fact: The church houses one of the oldest original organs in the Palatinate, dating from 1730. ------------------------------------------------ The war memorial directly in front of the church, dating from around 1930, is a larger-than-life sandstone German soldier on a cubic base. It commemorates the fallen and missing German soldiers of the First World War of 1914/18 with inscriptions of their names.

Nice spot, but it's a shame when the whole hill is parked with cars. Then the hill isn't so ugly.
