A castle already stood on this site in the 13th century. A manor house was built in 1515, and replaced by the palace in 1536. Between 1834 and 1854, a horseshoe-shaped building and a chapel were built next to the palace. Sissi spent her childhood here between 1837 and 1854.

Possenhofen Castle is a castle complex consisting of the Old Castle, a cubic hipped-roof building with four transverse corner towers, the New Castle, also known as the Horseshoe Building, and the castle chapel, which lies between the two buildings and is connected by a corridor. From the jetty you have a really beautiful view over the lake in the evening, and if the weather is good you can even see the mountains in the background.

There are various privately occupied apartments in the castle. The apartment in which Sissi lived is currently for sale. It is not yet known what price will be achieved for it (but it will certainly not be cheap)
