Schmerwitz Castle dates back to the 18th century. After the expropriation it was used as a training center for the Soviet Army. The house later housed the central school for combat groups. It has been empty since the fall of communism.

Ziesar Castle is one of the few surviving bishop's residences in Brandenburg. The Niederungsburg is located on the southern edge of the small town of Ziesar, on the eastern bank of the Kobser Bach.
