Bolton Castle is a magnificent 14th-century castle in a village of almost the same name – Castle Bolton. The quadrangular castle was built by the 1st Baron Scrope of Bolton, Richard, costing 18,000 Marks at the time.
Just outside Richmond, this is a lovely wood for a short stroll with the family or a beginning of a longer walk. From the path running alongside the river, there are truly terrific views of the Richmond Castle.
