Hartside Cross is the summit of the A686 between Penrith and Alston. It reaches 1,886 feet (575m) with great views because of the scrubby moorland.

This is a beautiful waterfall, easily accessible from the bridge above it, where there is some roadside parking. It does get busy, however, especially with gorge walking groups. Otherwise, you can walk up from Garrigill in about half an hour. The falls are in a great setting, with the bridge arching over the waterfall itself. It makes for a great photo stop or rest stop. You can also walk behind the waterfall. Please be careful in the area, as it is slippery underfoot, and avoid after prolonged rain for obvious reasons.

Low Gardens Bridge spans the River Lowther at Earl Henry's Drive. It is an old Grade II listed stone arch bridge which has a new steel beam bridge next to it.

Brougham Castle Bridge, spans the River Eamont in Cumbria, showcasing a three-span sandstone ashlar masonry arch design. it serves as a two-lane carriageway, offering a vital passage from Penrith to the 13th-century Brougham Castle, which can be seen from the bridge.

Lovely smooth gravel along the river, lots of picnic and paddle spots if its sunny! Ideal for children and balance bikes too!

This is a lovely train station where you can catch a small novelty train that follows the old railway to Slaggyford. There is also a cafe here.

In 1968, a strong gale caused flood waters to thunder down the Eden causing the 300-year-old Langwathby Bridge to collapse without warning. In its place this metal girder bridge was built as a “temporary” replacement. It’s still there now and is the longest standing temporary bridge in the country.

A wonderful independent country pub where muddy boots and paws are welcome. Home-cooked food and good ales. Expect pub classics including delicious pies as well as more gastro-type dishes such as confit duck-leg or teriyaki tuna steaks. Beer garden with stunning views over the Pennines for the summer and roaring wood-fires to warm up in winter.

The second largest stone circle in England, Long Meg and Her Daughters is simply beautiful. Thought to be Neolithic in age, and with a free car park nearby, it's worth a visit.

The Post Box Pantry in Dufton is renound for the huge sandwiches and cakes it serves. Perfect for a hungry bike rider :-) The traditional cream, tea is another popular choice. Open Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri from 10:00 - 16:00. Closed Thursdays. Open Sat & Sun 10:00 - 17:00.

Lovely view and a great way of getting back into Penrith without having to negotiate the A66/A6 roundabout at Kempley Bank.
