Fantastically beautiful view.. priceless

Below the Weidelsburg is this large old quarry with a shelter. Stone was quarried here for the construction of the Weidelsburg.

About 500 m down the path to the west below Weidelsburg is the “Katzenloch” leisure complex, owned by Hessen-Forst, Wolfhagen Forestry Office, a basalt quarry that was closed down in the 1960s. The long-distance hiking trails Habichtswaldsteig-Extratour H8 and the Huguenot-Waldenser-Pfad lead past it directly via the so-called zigzag path. There is no reliable evidence of the name “Katzenloch”. However, it can be assumed that it was derived from the natural stone name “Katzenköpfe”. From the east side of the Edertalsperre the very beautiful place can be reached via the route with the blue dot. Likewise the pulpit view of the dam of the Edersee. Ascent and descent are quite sporty for the first few meters. But it's worth it. Also because of the wonderful jungle of the national park.

The pulpit with its four thrones and the refuge is a beautiful resting place with a wonderful view of the Edersee and Waldeck Castle.

The Herbsthäuschen is a nice place for excursions and hikers. On the terrace you have a beautiful view. During the week it is not crowded. The food was delicious and the service very friendly!

The refuge Teufelseck is located above the Teufelsmauer. Here the access to the Hirzstein branches off (nice view!).
