Burleywhag has two main rooms, one is currently being reconstructed by the MBA (September 2025). The main room has a multi fuel stove, and a sleeping annex (sleeps 4 comfortably). Walk in from Mitchellslacks is around 1 hour (5km) on good paths. There is a well constructed bridge outside Burleywhag, which stood up well to Storm Amy, but the water was coming over the top when the river was in spate. As always with bothies, leave them as you find them. Tidy up and respect the space and don’t leave rubbish. Stroll through beautiful towering forest along the Water of Ae. There's plenty of woodland wildlife to spot and many superb picnic spots.

Some great gravel rides to be had around here.

A short walk or ride from the car park is a bridge over the river Ae. A popular place to stop and take photos. Wooden carved bench close to bridge. Easy access to this point and well worth a look
