A wonderful, lovingly run village shop with a small selection of food and drinks, homemade cakes, specialty coffees, fresh bread and rolls, Gottlieber Hüppen (a type of wafer roll), and much more. One of the smallest communities in Switzerland owes its existence to the Bishop of Constance, Eberhard II. In 1251, he had a double-towered moated castle with a battlement built here. Today, only the two 33m high corner towers remain from the original castle complex. In 1837, the rest was significantly altered when it was converted into a palace. The palace is privately owned and unfortunately it is difficult to see through the trees.

For many chocolate and specialty lovers, Gottlieber Hüppen and Gottlieber products are considered the finest delicacies. They are part of Switzerland's culinary heritage. The famous Gottlieber confectionery art is cultivated and constantly refined in the owner-managed factory. Take a break here during your hike and try the Hüppen - they don't taste better anywhere.

The picturesque townscape is characterized by beautiful half-timbered houses from the 17th century, idyllic corners and a beautiful avenue of plane trees. The small town hides great treasures. Gottlieben Castle was once owned by the French Emperor Napoleon III.
