This forest trail leads through the varied landscapes of Södra Hällarna Nature Reserve, from wind-shaped pine forests to more sheltered woodland. It’s a calm and scenic stretch, offering a nice contrast to the open coastal sections nearby.

Beautiful beach

Gnisvärd was once Gotland's largest fishing village. About 40 stone or wooden huts lie on both sides of a path running parallel to the beach. Between the huts is a drying area for nets. A stone chapel from 1839 completes the village. In 2005, there were 126 inhabitants.

On a clear day, you can see as far as the island of Ödland. The area boasts a diverse dry grassland flora on its limestone soils, where rare orchids can be found. The coastline is characterized by high limestone cliffs that rise up to 30 meters above sea level.

Small fishing village They are only open for summer break and are not for overnight stays. They may not be rented out either.

Here you will find numerous raukar, natural limestone pillars formed by erosion, which represent a geological highlight. The hiking trail is part of the Gotlandsleden, a marked long-distance hiking trail that circumnavigates the island. The area boasts a diverse dry grassland flora on the limestone soils, including rare orchid species in spring. Along the trail, evidence of Stone Age and Bronze Age habitats can be found in the form of burial sites and settlement remains. The hike offers unobstructed views of the open Baltic Sea and, on a clear day, as far as the island of Öland.

Accessible via stairs, relaxed but beautiful!

A magnificent, very well-preserved historic city wall. Some of the city wall towers are even climbable. A walk along the city wall is worthwhile, as is a visit to the beautiful old town.
