Altwied Castle - an admirable gem from the 12th century, until 1653 the ancestral seat of the Counts of Wied, today's princely house. However, it is less due to the Princely House than to the Altwied Heimatverein founded in 1980 that it is still here and can be admired by us.

The castle, the gate and the old half-timbered houses create a nice picture.

A relatively small waterfall, but very beautiful and idyllic. The water falls/flows down the mountain almost in cascades.

The first reports about the Laubachsmühle come from the year 1746. It became known through the restoration that was set up later, which brought the respective owners a desired extra income in the time of the emerging tourism after 1880. In any case, the mill, which is in a charming location, was not a grinding or oil mill, it was operated as a powder mill. Only after 1850 did it become a flour mill.

The Hohenstaufen castle ruins of Altwied stand on a narrow rock ridge around which the Wied flows on three sides. During its existence, the facility was never contested, conquered or even destroyed. It was still inhabited until the 17th century and only fell into disrepair after that. There are two entrances to the castle. Once the original; it leads over the Schloßweg in the old town center, through the outer bailey with two gates up to the upper bailey. Or you take the stairs at the mini golf course and then come through a (barred and locked) gate in the former residential tower directly into the upper castle. In the upper castle, the towering ruins of the palace and the women's shelter from the 13th century, the re-exposed fountain and the complete surrounding wall with defensive turrets can still be seen. www.altwied.de
