Altena-Hegenscheid Airfield (EDKD) is a small commercial airfield in the Sauerland region, operated by the town of Altena. It is located on the Wixberg hill between Altena and Iserlohn. The airfield is home to the Hegenscheid Air Sports Club and the Altena Hegenscheid Aero Club, among others, which operate glider and motor glider flights. There is also a café for refreshments and a rest stop.

There are also benches here for a break.

You have a beautiful view of the Sauerland

The hut is in tip-top condition. The benches in front have just been re-covered with wood. A highly recommended rest stop with magnificent views.

Shortly after Nieringsen, a fantastic view opens up into the western Sauerland.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian zone has now largely died out and is dominated by empty properties. During my visit on Friday afternoon, I was presented with a sad sight during the Advent season. The castle and the museum are very beautiful and recommendable. There is no admission charge, but you can support them with a donation of your choice.

The Apollo cinema in the historic building from 1901 stands on a central island and is still known today as the "Dutchman". The listed, narrow building in bright colors has something cult about it.
