The Lindwurm Fountain on Neuer Platz is Klagenfurt's most famous landmark. The chlorite slate figure was created at the end of the 16th century and commemorates the legend of the defeated Lindwurm. The fountain basin, wrought iron railing, and Hercules statue were added later. The fountain has been restored and relocated several times, most recently in 1972.
