Unique natural monument in the middle of the forest

Douglas firs with spruces...but that's right, the Douglas firs aren't native, and the spruces, while native, aren't suited to the site. Both were probably planted because they bring in money.

Here, tree fungi that feed on the wood ensure that the dead tree is broken down. It looks really great and is rarely seen in such beauty.

Some people are surely familiar with the legend of Johannes Ruhland, the Schwalm St. John's man, who is said to have lived in our town in the middle of the 15th century and was accused of murder. Since there was no evidence of his innocence, Ruhland offered to supply the town of Treysa with water as part of a divine judgment. With the installation of the water supply system, he is said to have achieved a technical marvel that not only brought him freedom but also fame and honor. Here you will find the recently renovated "Katzbachtal shelter". The site is located at a fork in the road. The "Alte Poststraße" runs through here, among other places. Rich in history! There is a campfire area in front of the hut. A lovingly designed place.

There is a not so small pond here. A bench to take a break on. Various flora and fauna. A fairytale-like area steeped in history.

The place is actually called that. A bench and a hiking portal from the "Ruhland Path" are located here. Idyllically located in the "Katzbachtal".
