A challenging climb with a great view; you can save yourself the €3.50 entrance fee to the fortress. If you're in good shape, the climb can be completed in 30 minutes, otherwise it will take longer.

Above the town, at the top of Dinara Mountain ⛰️, are the ancient remains of the 15th-century Starigrad Fortress, an important strategic location during the pirate era 🏴‍☠️. Inspired by the Aljaž Tower on the summit of Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak, Vickov stup is a characterful mountaineering shelter. High on the Mount Mosor ridge, it provides refuge for hikers and mountaineers in times of need. It was officially opened in 1952 and named after the Split-born revolutionary Vicko Krstulović.

Veliki Kabal, at 4,393 feet (1339 m), is the highest summit on the Mosor massif that dominates the landscape between Split and Omiš. As with many of the high summits in the Dinaric Alps, it offers stupendous views down to the Adriatic Sea, as well as of Split and along the Mosor Ridge. There are two mountain huts in the area: the Dom Umberto Girometta and the Planinarsko sklonište Kontejner.

Entrance is paid (3.5 euros 2023). Pay only in cash. There will be beautiful views only from the fortress itself, if you do not climb the most difficult route.
