regulates shipping traffic on the Saale federal waterway and is located in the center of Bernburg, very close to Bernburg Castle. The historic lock was built between 1935 and 1938 and is operated and maintained by the Magdeburg Waterways and Shipping Authority.

The castle belonged, among others, to the parents of the later tsarina, Catherine the Great. The castle grounds themselves are not accessible. However, the area in front of them also offers rest areas. On Open Monument Day (every second Sunday in September), individual rooms of the castle can be visited from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
