Margrave Albrecht Achilles had the “Old Castle” in Neustadt a.d.Aisch built in 1448 as a hunting lodge, protected by a moat. Access is only possible via the drawbridge. The hexagonal stair tower was only added to the castle later. Anna of Saxony, the wife of Albrecht Achilles, used the castle as a widow's residence. Even after that, it served as a residence for members of the margrave family until 1626. After the completion of the New Castle in 1626, the respective state governors used it as their residence. Today, the castle grounds house the Margrave Museum and the Aischgrund Carp Museum as well as the Children's Play Worlds.
