The church replaced a previous Romanesque fieldstone church, which was demolished in 1902 due to structural deficiencies. It is a brick building in the Neo-Gothic style, based on Brick Gothic models.

The church building is located in the center of Vieritz on the west side of Genthiner Strasse. The core of the building is an unusually large, late Romanesque brick hall building from the first half of the 13th century. Around 1600, a transverse rectangular west tower with corner pilasters under a hipped roof was added. The church was partially destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in the 1650s. In the first half of the 18th century (according to an inscription plaque, 1727), the nave was converted into a baroque plastered building with a three-sided choir. The nave windows were extended with round arches in 1862. The building was repaired between 2003 and 2006.
