The marble bridge was built at the end of the 19th century. Around 100 years later, the bridge was enriched with a statue of Saint Nepomuk.

Runkel is located in the Lahn valley between the Westerwald and Taunus. Runkel was first mentioned in a document in 1259. Runkel Castle is outstanding. A knight of Charlemagne is said to have decided to build a castle in 787. The castle was built to secure the Lahn crossing and has been expanded several times.

An impressive gorge and easy to walk. Pleasant fresh air, which also invites you to run in summer. The basalt breakthrough clearly shows the power of the water.

The sculpture made in 1996 from Wirbelau Lahn marble represents Johannes von Nepomuk and was created on the Lahn Bridge to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the expulsion in 1946 - also made from Lahn marble.

Runkel is a great medieval photo motif: old bridge, castle and half-timbered houses...

In the past centuries, Villmar an der Lahn was considered a "marble metropolis" at home and abroad, because polishable limestone from the Devonian period in black, grey, red or iridescent colors was mined here in many different deposits/quarries and processed on site. Today, with the exception of the "Unica" quarry - a natural monument - all the former marble quarries are deserted and overgrown by hedges. It is a window into the Devonian period. The predominantly red marble, with sawn walls approximately 14 meters long and approximately 6 meters high, provides a glimpse of a Middle Devonian stromatopore reef that scientists believe is unique in the world.
