You can ride the short stretch from the turnoff to Mindersbach to the Pfrondorf Mill on the road and maintain a high speed. This is an attractive option during off-peak times. When traffic is heavy, which is often the case, you can also opt for the bike path – but you'll have to accept one or two steep climbs and a lower speed. The route is a bit more adventurous: first, a very steep, confusing section under the road, then over the wooden bridge, and then a steep climb again just before Emmingen.

The bends just before Rohrau are always a highlight on the downhill. Your concentration on the road can easily obscure the magnificent view from "up there." After that, you practically shoot into town. You should be a bit careful here because of the parked cars on the outskirts (strictly speaking, the speed limit is 30 km/h in town, and you should at least be ready to brake). The route is also great as a climb, as there's usually less traffic. Once you've overcome the switchbacks, the final third of the route follows a gentle downhill slope behind the crest toward the Hildrizhausen/Herrenberg junction.

Be careful when crossing the street. It's a dangerous spot. And always keep to the right around bends, as there's a lot of bicycle traffic on the road.

While there are a few rough patches, the road remains flat throughout, allowing for quick progress. There's less traffic, but you can sometimes find yourself stuck behind for a while because the curves make it difficult to overtake. All in all, I like this road much better than the very hilly, bumpy section of the Würmtal cycle path next door.

Calw is just... Calw - as a local, my opinion is probably distorted, but tourists love the charm of the "small town pearl" with its pretty old town. There are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat. My favorites for coffee and cake are Café Goldmund, Café am Markt and Caféhäusle, but the other alternatives aren't bad either. Fruit and Turkish sweets are available at Kaya on Badstrasse, which also accepts card payments. On suitability for racing bikes: The paved pedestrian zone (from Lederstrasse to Badstrasse) does allow bicycles, but only at walking pace. This should definitely be adhered to out of consideration for everyone - especially on a summer weekend when it's particularly busy! If you want to speed, you should take Bischofsstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse. You can easily go with the flow of traffic there at 30-40km/h, although in the worst case scenario there will be several traffic lights waiting for you.
