The Haltenbrücke bridge is located south of Rothenburg. It carries state road St 2419 over the Tauber River, directly near the Haltenmühle mill. Here you can park your car and explore the Tauber Valley Trail, the Tauber River, and the mills below Rothenburg.

A mill called "Leysen-Mühle" was first documented at this location in 1333. In 1471, it was sold and converted into a smelting mill. Around 1700, the mill building was rebuilt and operated as a grain mill until the First World War.

The valley path in the Schandtaubertal is accessible again

The Schandtaubert Valley, which stretches southwest of Rothenburg to Bettenfeld, is a piece of untouched nature. Here, you can truly enjoy the tranquility and, along the way, learn interesting facts about everything from geology to historical hydropower use on the water management trail.

The Schandtauber is a 14-kilometer-long tributary of the Tauber River. It rises south of Gammesfeld on the Hohenlohe Plain and meanders as a trickle to Bettenfeld in Bavaria. There, water from a karst spring emerges from an underground cave system and supplies the Schandtauber with most of its water. The river then flows through the pristine Schandtauber Valley, past several mills, before flowing into the Tauber at the Schmelzmühle mill below Rothenburg.

Along the Schandtauber from Bettenfeld Mittelmühle to Hammerschmiede the path is very bad, many fallen trees.
