Superb landscapes

The Church of St. Paul in Tavira (Igreja de São Paulo) was built in 1606 and was part of a former convent of the Hermits of São Paulo. The exterior is simple, but inside you'll find religious art from the 16th to the 18th centuries, including a Baroque altarpiece of Our Lady of Carmo. The church is located near Praça Dr. António Padinha.

The castle sits atop a hill overlooking the Guadiana River. The river forms the natural border between Portugal and Spain.

In 1876, an unprecedented flood of the Guadiana River revealed previously unknown ruins: the Roman Villa of Montinho das Laranjeiras. Founded in the 1st century BC, it was inhabited continuously until the end of the Islamic period, when it was finally abandoned. Its privileged position allowed trade along the river as far as Mértola and ensured the continuity of Roman, Visigothic, and Islamic occupation.

The metal railroad bridge crosses the Gilão River.

The reservoir is really beautiful. But I haven't seen a full lake here for years. The drought here is getting worse every year

Cycling along the Guadiana River from Castro Marim it's a great experience. The road is not very busy. Mandatory visit.
