Vaqueiros is a small parish in the municipality of Alcoutim. It is a very peaceful place, where several hiking trails in the region begin. Like other villages in the Algarve, the population of Vaqueiros has decreased significantly over the years, further highlighting its bucolic and peaceful atmosphere.

After about 5 km the signage was unclear and wanted to lead us back. We decided on a route that seemed logical to us. Ultimately it was not possible to get back to the route (no internet reception), so we walked up and down the mountains until we came across an inhabited house, completely exhausted, whose friendly residents drove us to Baixas Casas, our starting point. We would never have managed the 10 km through the deserted mountains on foot. Never again!

The Don Quixote Route passes along the asphalt road for a few kilometers. In this section there is a clear display of the Algarve's undulating terrain, in addition to the beautiful surrounding landscapes.

Secluded in the middle of the Algarve hills is Barranco da Junqueira. The small river is one of the watercourses that flows into the Odeleite Reservoir. The conditions for crossing it vary depending on its volume, which varies greatly throughout the year.

The Cova dos Mouros Mining Park, located in Alcoutim, Portugal, is a theme park and archaeological site. It offers a thematic route that portrays the history of mining and metallurgy from the Chalcolithic period to the beginning of the 20th century. Furthermore, it serves as a reserve for animal species such as ostriches and donkeys, and is located on the former premises of the Cova dos Mouros Mine.

The small Ribeira da Foupanilha is crossed several times along the PR7 route. Like other watercourses in the Algarve, its volume can be drastically different depending on the season. It is worth paying attention to the fact that, sometimes, in rainy seasons, crossing it can be a somewhat difficult task.
