At least today the water didn't look particularly good. While other lakes, ponds and rivers are clear, the Orchelsweiher is filled with brown water.

The total filling volume is around 25 million cubic meters. Filling began in 1994. Every year, 3.8 million m³ of water is pumped into the lake from swamp wells in the Inden opencast mine so that it maintains its current level. According to the Aachen city region, this supply of swamp water will be necessary until 2061.

The Wehebach dam in the municipality of Hürtgenwald is the third largest and probably the most original dam in the entire North Eifel region. It offers hikers numerous hiking trails and impressive opportunities to experience the element of water. It can be reached on foot from the towns of Großhau and Kleinhau. The Wehebach dam has been in operation since 1983 and was built to protect the Wehe and Inde valleys from flooding and to provide drinking and service water. Strict water protection regulations apply. For this reason, leisure activities in and around the Wehebachtalsperre are completely inadmissible. This means that nature can unfold undisturbed. Numerous beaver castles can be admired at this dam. Impressive even today: The former country road number 11 between Kleinhau and Schevenhütte runs across the Wehebachtalsperre and became impassable due to the damming of the Wehebachtal.

The Wehebachtalsperre was put into operation in 1983 for flood protection, drinking water supply and raising the low water level. Below the dam, the Wehebach flows further into the Inde and Rur. The dam belongs to the Eifel-Rur water association
