The Ruhr Bridge in Fröndenberg is an important historical structure that was originally part of the railway line between Fröndenberg and Menden. It was damaged on 16/17 May 1943 by a flood caused by the bombing of the Möhne Dam and was blown up by the Wehrmacht in April 1945. It was then rebuilt with only one track and has remained in this condition to this day.

This relatively small river gives its name to a region known worldwide and with a great history. In the background the Hönnetalbahn bridge.

A really beautiful corner there at the Möhnesee. Lots of space for leisure activities, whether hiking, biking or water sports. Everyone can be happy there. And if not, there are enough restaurants and cafés around the lake. 😜😁

The weir of Wickede can already be seen from the railway bridge. The bike path over the bridge leads over wooden planks and it rattles here and there.

Great section on Ruhrtalradweg. As usual, between Neheim and Hüsten you drive very close to nature and far away from the cities.

The Möhnesee is one of the oldest dams in Germany. The 1908-1913 quarry stone barrier wall is a monument and the main attraction of the Möhnesee. The dam wall is 650 meters long and 30 meters at its highest point. The southern half of the Möhnesee is completely surrounded by the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. The varied and extensive forest area is ideal for relaxing walks and long hikes. The circular route around the lake is great, you should plan a tour during the week, it's just too crowded at the weekend.

If you don't feel like driving through Wickede/Ruhr coming from Arnsberg, turn right immediately after the bridge, cycle under the bridge and between Obergraben and the renatured Ruhr further downstream.
