Impressive buildings of industrial culture can be visited here. Very well done permanent exhibition with many great, up-to-date museum didactic elements, e.g. augment reality brings the distant machines back to life. The canal trips from the ship's perspective in time lapse are also very cool.

One of the most popular destinations on the Industrial Heritage Route is the LWL Industrial Museum at the Henrichenburg ship lift in Waltrop. The imposing facility amazes even those who don't like technology. The boat lift from the turn of the century is an exciting destination, especially for children. The Henrichenburg ship lift has now been voted number 1 of the most popular industrial monuments in NRW by WDR viewers in the "Hitlists of the West".

In the very east of the Ruhr area lies the Seepark Lünen and the traces of mining are still visible today: in the middle of the Seepark Lünen there is the Horstmarer Loch, a depression that is twelve meters below the usual terrain level at its deepest point. Today there is a kind of natural amphitheater with grass steps, where theatrical and musical events are regularly held. Interesting is the view of the higher channel and the ships passing overhead. The counterpart to the Horstmarer Loch, on the other hand, is the former heap of the Preußen colliery. From here there is a beautiful view of the Seepark and the nearby Datteln-Hamm Canal.

Emscher Landscape Park - The green heart of the Ruhr Metropolis 15 unique park landscapes for 5.3 million inhabitants of the Ruhr area This includes the Seepark in Lünen in the district of Unna Industry nature between mine dumps and blast furnaces that runs through the Ruhr area.

The Old Ride is a disused section of the Dortmund-Ems Canal. The 8 1/2 km long section extends from the Datteln canal junction to behind Olfen. A beautiful footpath and cycle path leads directly along the water.

Another section of the KLT between Ortlohstraße and Emscherbrücke has been asphalted and has been open to traffic since March 22nd, 2022. Thus, even more relaxed driving on this great route is possible.

Beautiful section of the route in the direction of Olfen. You should definitely drive down along the water (not up on the road) to really enjoy it.
