Even if the lake is not on the direct circular route - the detour is worth it and is highly recommended! A really cozy place that exudes a very special sense of calm even when there are several visitors. Perfect to pause for a moment!

Cow-kick mussels can be found at the crossroads. Megalodonts (superfamily Megalodontoidea) are mostly large bivalves (Bivalvia) that belong to the order Hippuritoida within the superorder Heterodonta. The best-known representatives of this group are the so-called cow-step mussels from the Triassic, which can now be found as fossils, for example in the Dachstein limestone and similar rocks of the Northern Limestone Alps. The oldest representatives of the group appeared in the Ordovician. The superfamily died out in the Upper Cretaceous. Occurrence in time Ordovician to Upper Cretaceous approximately 471 to 65 million years

The beautiful Schafkogelsee is a reservoir in the Hinterstoder ski region. The water is extracted from the mountain and is used for the ski cannons. A great view of the Dead Mountains 🏔

The Gleinkersee is a wonderful bathing lake above Spital am Pyhrn and scores with pleasant temperatures, a wonderful, alpine backdrop and a very well-kept bathing area. There is even a campsite and an inn on the lake. You can find information here: https://www.gleinkersee.at.

Unfortunately, this impressive backdrop cannot be captured and conveyed in a photo. The personal live recording is nowhere near that. This detour is a must when visiting the region
