The almost 900-year-old castle above the Trattnachtal changed hands countless times. Tenants are currently being sought for the castle.

Spilberg Castle Ruins is a historic castle near Langenstein in the Perg district in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria. The castle is now located in a floodplain landscape, the Schlossau, about 600 meters from the banks of the Danube. The castle was built in the 12th century and was once an important moated castle on an island on the Danube. The castle has a 35 meter high Romanesque crenellated tower and is surrounded by a 16 meter high rampart wall. The Spilberg castle ruins are an interesting excursion destination for history and nature lovers. The “Friends of the Spilberg Castle Ruins” association takes care of the preservation and communication of the castle. You can visit the castle, take guided tours or take part in cultural events such as concerts or theater performances.

Unfortunately the lock does not appear to be really used - it appears to be falling into disrepair. Very beautiful and worth a visit are the imposing old trees - a huge willow, a great red beech and also the pretty pond - which contains goldfish and is also a paradise for birds after the chirping.

Pragstein Castle / Local History Museum Schloss Pragstein is a palace, often referred to as a castle The castle, named after its builder Ladislaus Prager (1514), also known as "Lassla of Prague", was extensively renovated at the end of the 20th century and, in addition to the state music school, the registry office and several event rooms, also contains two museums: the Mauthausen local history museum. The castle was built on a rocky island off the left bank of the Danube. Access to the moated castle washed by the Danube was only possible via a bridge. Since Emperor Leopold I lived in the castle for a short time in 1680, Pragstein must have been in good condition at the time. During the Austro-Bavarian War of Succession, the castle was occupied by 66 French soldiers, who were taken prisoner on January 5, 1742. This castle from the time of the Thirty Years War is now owned by the Spiegelfeld family. In summer there are festivals with challenging and entertaining theater. In 2020, the committed family of artistic director Nikolaus Büchel and his wife Lisa Wildmann dared to perform successful performances despite the corona pandemic. In 2021 we really enjoyed the piece "The Principle and the Krampus". https://festspiele-schloss-tillysburg.at

PRAGSTEIN CASTLE: Local history museum and trophy museum in Pragstein Castle: Opening times May to October: Mon, Tue, Thu from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The gate is accessible at ground level without a bridge. A built-in staircase leads the visitor to the three upper floors with hall-like floorboards, around which the living rooms and the staircase are grouped. The gate still has its late Gothic lintel. The windows on the top two floors still have stone surrounds. A bay window protrudes over the gate. Under the edge of the roof there is an arched frieze that runs around the entire building and rests on corbels. The roof is hipped.

In 1491, Lasla of Prague had the Pragstein Castle built as a "moated castle" on an island that was then off the Mauthausen bank. Today part of the mainland, the music school, the local history, trophy, Gerstmayr and pharmacy museum are housed in the historic building on the Danube. During a Long Museum Night in October, entry is also free at night, with additional exhibitions.

https://www.spilberg.at/ Spilberg Castle was once an important moated castle and was originally located on an island in the Danube, which belonged to the municipality of Enns. The castle has always been an important place of refuge and defense throughout its history. The flood of 1796 and the regulation of the Danube in the 19th century changed the course of the river to such an extent that the ruins are now in the floodplain, the Schlossau, near the northern bank of the Danube. In 1997 the area with the northern surrounding area was separated from the municipality of Enns and incorporated into the municipality of Langenstein, Perg district, Upper Austria. The original name Spilberg later became Spielberg due to the changed spelling. Today the ruin proudly bears its old name again SPILBERG but is still referred to differently in many publications.
