The Prandegg castle ruins are around 140 metres long and are one of the largest castles in the country. They began to decay around 1750 and have been owned by the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha since 1823. You can visit them and walk around the castle on the castle trail.

"No entry" was written on the sign. The reason was immediately recognized. No more benches and tables as seen in the highlight before. No invitation to rest - no more space for lunch! A large corner area of the large walls is no longer there! Collapsed! What a pity! You can only see a few things that suggest that it was often more than cozy here and that it was a real meeting place. The photos are from: 2024.07.06. Weinberg Castle is one of the beautiful Renaissance castles in Upper Austria and has been run as an educational and event center since 1989.

Unfortunately, you cannot directly date the photos in Highlights! My summer photos are from 2000.07.23. The winter photos are from 2004.01.06.

The Prandegg castle ruins are always worth a visit. Unfortunately, the photos cannot be dated. There are some photos of mine that go back to the year 2000. I think it is important to document how such places change - this can be seen particularly in the condition and use of the "Moarhof". I can still remember how there was a stone trough in the courtyard by the stone arch that ran the entire length under the arch. But also how dilapidated the whole thing was and now it is full of life again. It is what it is - the castle ruins remind us of a time that was long before us. Let's enjoy it NOW!

A castle in the valley is unusual. The Waldaist has dug deep and steeply into the area here. The descent/ascent from/to the side is very steep - exhausting despite the firm road surface.

Very nice well-kept castle, great wrought iron gate. There are a few llamas in the paddocks.
