Over the past centuries, the square's shape and development have changed several times. The Altmarkt was redesigned between 2000 and 2003. The town hall was built on its current site in 1840 as a neoclassical building. Several renovations were carried out in the following years, and an extension was added in 1927/28. The pharmacy was built on its current site at the beginning of the 19th century and restored to its original form in the early 1990s. A pharmacy has been documented in Ortrand since 1641. This historic Electoral Saxon postal milepost has stood on the market square since 1730. The current milepost is a rebuilt milepost. Cast-iron tubular fountain. It was installed in 2004. Cast-iron cladding with the city coat of arms and dedication texts.
