Visiting on weekdays from 9am is recommended as there are not too many visitors.

Interesting excavation site - nice short single trail

From the pictures and some of the comments you can see that even KTM cyclists do not always know that KTM bikes are a brand that has long been sold by KTM Motorcycles and has nothing in common with KTM motorcycles apart from the name and logo . Due to the boom in the bicycle industry and especially the e-bike trend, KTM Motorcycles tried in vain to buy back the KTM brand for bicycles. By the way: KTM Motorcycles still builds its own bicycles and e-bikes, just as a Husqvarna brand. So it's better to pose in front of the KTM logo with a Husqvarna bike than with a KTM. 😉

The visitor can experience something here that can best be described with the catchphrase "romantic ruins". In Oberrothenbuch there is a castle complex on a spur high above the Inn, which was probably built in the early Staufer period. The Ratzlburg was the former seat of the "Rohrer" family, who were very wealthy in our area at the time. This site is archaeologically significant because the remains of a 12th-century castle have been preserved here without being overbuilt. The tower has an octagonal plan, which was rare in the northern Alps. The most important find, along with bone dice, was a gilded bronze fitting or piece of jewelry in the shape of a dragon. In addition to the interesting historical remains, the castle area offers a wonderful view over the Inn to neighboring Bavaria. Cyclists and hikers can rest at an octagonal table (the counterpart of the octagonal tower) and then delve into the history of this excavation by looking at the information boards. Access to the castle complex (only possible by bicycle!) is well signposted: From the Weilhart Landesstrasse, turn right at the first junction (coming from Braunau) in Weilhartsforst and then immediately left again.
