Franz Liszt was born in this house on October 22, 1811. With its 6 rooms, it used to be the stateliest house in this area. Today it houses a museum. Directly opposite is a modern concert hall. The first part of the castle with the 50 m high keep was built at the beginning of the 14th century by the lords of Mattersdorf, who later called themselves lords of Forchtenstein.
