The original lookout tower was built in 1903, later unfortunately destroyed and rebuilt in 2007. The 28 meter high wooden and steel construction, which winds around a 100 year old tree, has 133 steps to climb. The ascent is always worthwhile, because the view extends over the Rosaliengebirge to Lake Neusiedl and even to Sopron and Bratislava.

Visible from afar, Forchtenstein Castle sits enthroned on a rocky cone in the Rosalia Mountains and bears witness to an eventful, warlike time. Its roots go back to the 13th century and it has been associated with the name Esterházy since the 1620s.

The castle park with the Leopoldinentempel with rock system is an ideal place to stroll. The temple itself is reminiscent of the famous Sybyl temple in Tivoli near Rome. As early as 1805, the world-famous sculptor Antonio Canova was working on the marble statue of Princess Leopoldine Esterházy. Daughter of Prince Nikolaus II Esterhàzy. The statue was placed in the Temple of Leopodina in 1821. The orangery is a real feast for the eyes.

A lookout tower from another building councilor, I would say. And of course the view from above is worth climbing the stairs. I also liked the serpentine path next to it.

A mighty castle, the climb is worthwhile because it is beautifully preserved/renovated. There is a reptile zoo nearby (across the street), which might be a welcome addition to the trip (especially with kids). The exhibition consists largely of selfies of former Esterhasys with their imaginary family tree. Some interesting old guns and military tents on top.

Reachable in about 10 minutes from the parking lot at the Alm. From the observation tower you have a wonderful all-round view. Great view of the Neusiedlersee.
