The 1,160-meter-high Veitsberg lies in the Wimitz Mountains and is actually a subsidiary peak of the nearby Gößeberg, but it is often considered a mountain in its own right. A chapel stands on its summit, first mentioned in 1580 – the site may have served as a place of worship in Roman times. After a fire in 1950, the chapel was rebuilt. Veitsberg is also the third and highest stop in the traditional Vierbergelauf (Four Mountains Run), in which the chapel is circled three times and the bell is rung to make a wish.

The 671 meter high summit is forested, so you don't get a view from here. But there is a small summit cross, which is nice. This is also the start of the Falkenberg Bike Trails.

If the summit of the Kreuzbergl wasn't marked on the map, you would probably just walk past it. However, there are a few beautiful paths through the forest and it's definitely worth a detour if you're already in the area!

While cyclists thronged Lake Wörthersee on car-free day, we drove to St. Bartholomew's. We parked the cars at the small church and followed the signs for "Hoher Gallin Weg" (High Gallin Trail). The path led us uphill through the forest. After a good hour, we reached the summit cross. A magnificent view of Lake Wörthersee opened up before us. After a leisurely rest, we hiked westward downhill to Töpriach. Unfortunately, we had to walk back to our starting point along the asphalt road, which, however, was hardly used by cars. We enjoyed a well-deserved meal after the hike at the Gasthaus Gatternig in Villach.

Ideal for a short rest and to enjoy the view.

A beautiful hiking destination with easy and difficult routes. Unfortunately, the memorial is misused by die-hards and partially spoiled.

There are several routes up the mountain. From Karnburg/Dellach, there are a few parking spaces towards the Zwischenberger Inn, or you can park right next to the Glan River bike path. From Stegendorf, you pass the vineyards and enjoy a beautiful, open view to the south for a long time before entering the forest.
