Wernberg Castle is a largely Renaissance-era castle located on a rock above the Drava River bend east of Villach (Carinthia). In the early 1990s, I had the privilege of discovering and getting to know the "Aichelburg Ruins," as it was then called. The medieval castle was completely overgrown, and it was very difficult to find a way to the walls. The interior had collapsed and was also overgrown. It's wonderful that the ruins have been brought back to life and now bear the name "Aichelberg Castle Ruins." They deserve the distinction of being "absolutely worth seeing." Landskron Castle (Slovene: Grad Vajškra) is a rock castle northeast of Villach at the western edge of the Ossiacher Tauern range, situated on the plateau of a rocky cone rising 135 meters above the plain. Below the castle rock lies the village of St. Andrä at the western end of Lake Ossiach, not far from the Villach district of Landskron.
