The cycle paths in this area are very well laid out.

We drove from Villach to Pontebba. The entire route is a real highlight. Especially from the Italian border, I could have taken a new photo every two minutes.

A beautiful route, little traffic.

The views from up there are absolutely stunning - you can see for miles all around the valley. Getting to the top is no easy feat though, that path is pretty darn steep! My legs were jelly by the time I made it. If I'm being honest, I'd recommend taking the ski lift up as recommended by https://www.standforca.com/ to save your poor calves the agony. Nothing beats the satisfaction of conquering the descent on foot though. You really feel like you earned those views. Stopping to catch your breath and taking it all in - it's totally worth the effort. Just a heads up that it's not for the faint of heart! But if you're up for the challenge, it's an experience you won't forget.
