In front of this summit cross that crowns the Frauenalpe, the following thoughts from Pope Francis may be helpful to one or another who lingers at the top after the climb: "In the resurrection of Christ, each of our destinies finds its place in the infinite horizon of eternity. Only from his death and resurrection can we be certain that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God [as the Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Romans, chapter 8]. From this great hope comes every other glimmer of light with which we can overcome the trials and obstacles of life. And not only that: the Risen One also walks with us and becomes our companion, as with the disciples of Emmaus."

07/2024: Travel by car to Murauer Hut. You should be there early enough to get a spot, otherwise try a little further down at the hotel. It's 6.5km and 400m of elevation to the Frauenalpe there and back. It's easy to walk, good path. No problem with a dog either. Wonderful panorama at the top, sloping steeply to the southeast. At the end you can stop at the Murauer Hut and start the way back.

You can also spend the night in the hut. It is usually open from the beginning of May to the end of October and from the beginning of December to the end of March.

Very nice square with numerous restaurants and shops.

The archway belongs to the Goppelsbach Castle behind it. The Mur cycle path leads through the archway and then continues along the property next to the Mur.

Excerpt from Wikipedia: In 1530, Wilhelm von Moosheim bought land from the Gurk Collegiate Foundation in Friesach and began building Goppelsbach Castle. This was completed in 1595 by Seifried von Moosheim. In 2005, the former third president of the Austrian National Council, Thomas Prinzhorn, acquired the castle and the associated 800 hectare forest. The archway belongs to this castle.
