Do not go into Crail golf club for coffee or food you will not be served unless you are a member. Very disappointed. Crail gold Hotel in town serves very good food no membership required happy days.

Lovely big loop to get some running in away from the roads. It can get really muddy in sections, generally in the South West. Lots of dog walkers and occasional cows!

The Ice House was built in 1852 and was used to store locally caught salmon. To provide insulation, layers of heather and straw were packed around the ice, creating a rather ingenious deep freeze.

This is a beautiful stretch on Tentsmuir Sands, whether for leisurely family and dog-walking or a part of something longer. On the northern end of this section is Tentsmuir Point with useful information board about the area, and to the south there is a glorious view across Eden Mouth to St Andrews. This is one huge beach!

Tentsmuir Sands is a beautiful beach in itself, but there is also history here. During World War 2, Polish soldiers built a system of defences, a part of a larger plan to defend Britain from enemy invasion. Here, you will find a WW2 observation tower as well as a target wagon. This would carry moving targets along a track and was used for target practice.

The beautiful sandy beach at Tayport Heath, with lovely views towards Dundee across the Firth. The concrete blocks in the sand are anti-tank defences from World War 2.

Made up of three lochs, this nature reserve is parts of Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve. It's a lovely and peaceful place to be. You can watch birds here, and you should be able to spot dragonflies, too.

Walk along the stunning Fife Coastal Path, a long-distance walking trail that stretches for 117 miles along the eastern coast of Scotland. This section of the path that passes through Balmerino is particularly picturesque, offering breathtaking views of the River Tay and the surrounding countryside.

Loch Ore is a beautiful wild area managed by Fife Council. The loch and surrounding area are popular for running, walking, cycling and bird watching. The running around the loch is a really nice loop and it's also great for families.

East Lomond stands above Falkland and is sometimes known as Falkland Hill. At 434m it's not as high as West Lomond but still offers amazing views and great running. The run up from Falkland is a challenging ascent or you can combine it as a figure of 8 loop with West Lomond from Craigmead car park. On the summit which was once a hill fort there is a trig point and topograph.

West Lomond at 522m is the highest point in Fife and the highest point in the Lomond Hills. It's the prominent western top on the skyline with amazing and genuinely far reaching views across Scotland. The running here is great with good trails, ascents and descents but only very short sections of steep. The trails and tracks allow good loops from any of the car parks or Falkland.

Visited on the Elie Chainwalk adventure the Devil's Tower is an interesting rock formation. The distinctive columnar rock is formed when the magma cools and the crystal structure of this type of igneous rock forms these distinctive shapes.

The most easterly point of Fife is a rocky outcrop with dangerous rocks offshore. A series of light ships were used here as it proved impossible to build a lighthouse on the rocks out at sea. Eventually the land-based lighthouse was built in 1975. There was also a coastguard station here until 2012. The headland was an important strategic position as a look out in the world wars, a pill box remains from the defence built then. Fife Ness makes a great destination on a coastal walk from Crail or Kingsbarns. The coastal paths are wild and the sea is impressive along here. Keep an eye out for sea birds. Whale, dolphin and seals have also been spotted swimming in the North Sea from this area.

A nice secluded sandy beach on the coast near Fife Head. It makes a good picnic spot on a coastal walk around here. Mary's Skelly - the rocky platform at the north-western end of the beach is named after the point where Mary Queen of Scots landed once.

Crail has been a market town since permission was granted for the market in 1178. The harbour has always been used but the present stone harbour defence was first built in 1610. The current west pier was built in 1828 and includes unusual vertical coursing of the stonework. Today it's a popular and pretty seaside town with great coastal walking in both directions.
