Retz, the town in the Weinviertel, has one of the most beautiful town squares in Austria. In the old town there is a kilometer-long cellar system that is also accessible. Guided tours are also offered.

The Öhlbergkellergasse in Pillersdorf is a two-row cellar lane and is one of the most original cellar lanes in the Austrian Weinviertel. In 1995, it was chosen as the most beautiful cellar lane in Lower Austria in a competition to revitalize the cellar lanes. The wine cellars on both sides of the hollow road on the Öhlberg are partly over 600 years old, and from the 18th century onwards, press houses were added. What is special about this cellar lane is the authenticity of the whitewashed cellars with the green doors, which have escaped almost any modernization. At the Grape Harvest Festival (end of September) wine flows from the fountains instead of water. A unique experience at the Retz main square.

In 1995 the foundations of the demolished church were excavated. In order to get a better overview of this excavation, an elliptical lookout tower was built around the foundations of the former church in 1999, which also allows a wide view of the Weinviertel and South Moravia.

Extension and closure of the pilgrimage church 1751-1785: In addition to a sacristy, the nave was extended to a length of 30m. In 1785 the church "Maria am Stein" was closed by Joseph II and demolished in the years that followed.
