From the dam, you have an impressive view over the elongated, fjord-like reservoir, which is idyllically nestled between wooded slopes. The view is particularly beautiful on clear days, when the surrounding mountain landscape is reflected in the water. The dam itself is freely accessible and a good vantage point, as you can enjoy a clear view of the reservoir from here.

The Wiestal Reservoir in Salzburger Land is a popular destination for cyclists, nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Wiestal Valley near the communities of Puch bei Hallein, Ebenau, and Adnet. The lake was created between 1909 and 1913 with the construction of a 28-meter-high gravity dam and today serves as a reservoir for the Wiestal storage power plant. Numerous cycling paths lead to the reservoir, including circular tours from Salzburg, Bad Vigaun, or Hallein, offering both scenic highlights and sporting challenges. Swimming areas and recreational opportunities are located along the lake, making it ideal for a combination of cycling, nature experiences, and relaxation.

Despite the patchy cycle path in this valley, I can make a recommendation: not too much traffic and a speed limit in places gives cyclists a good chance of getting through unscathed

A really wonderful lake, but very well visited! So off-peak times are worth it ;-)
