The Schaunberg ruins, often called Schaunburg, are one of the most impressive historical sites in Upper Austria. They tower above the Eferding Basin in the municipality of Hartkirchen and were once the largest castle complex in the state. Built around 1150 by Heinricus de Scovenberch, a member of the Julbach noble family, they are the ancestral seat of the Counts of Schaunberg and the center of the county of the same name. Originally approximately 17,500 square meters in size, they were the largest castle complex in Upper Austria.

The 600-year-old castle linden tree is an impressive tree that stands at the entrance to the Schaunburg castle ruins in Upper Austria. It is a summer linden tree (Tilia platyphyllos) and has a trunk circumference of around 6.85 m. It was planted around 1402 and is therefore around 621 years old. It is a witness to the history of Schaunburg Castle, which was once the largest castle complex in Upper Austria and the seat of the Counts of Schaunberg. The castle was built in the 12th century and was the scene of the Schaunberg feud, which the Schaunbergers waged against the Habsburgs and the Wallseers. The castle fell into disrepair after the Schaunbergers died out in the 16th century and was partially demolished. The ruins are now a popular destination for hikers and cyclists, who can enjoy the wonderful view over the Eferdinger Basin. The castle linden tree is a natural monument and a symbol of the region's past and present.

The Linz Castle is a historical building located on the Schlossberg in the old town district of Linz. It was first mentioned in 799 and served as a residence for various Austrian rulers. The castle has been rebuilt and expanded several times, most recently in 2009, when a modern south wing in steel and glass architecture was added. Today the castle houses the Linz Castle Museum, the largest universal museum in Austria in one place. The museum offers insights into the natural, cultural and technological history of Upper Austria from the beginning of life up to the 21st century. The museum has an extensive collection of more than 160,000 objects, which are presented in various departments. There are also regular special exhibitions on current topics. The castle is also a popular viewing point, offering wonderful views of the Danube and the city. There is also a restaurant in the castle where you can relax and enjoy.
