The Burmeister farm in Wakendorf is now run by the Burmeister family in the 4th generation. Since 1876, the site of today's youth hostel (Konrad-Adenauer-Ring 2) in Bad Oldesloe has been a bathing area. In 1891, wooden changing rooms were built. In 1914, the old river bathing establishment was built. It is now a listed building. In 1936, after the Trave was regulated, it was rebuilt. To the left of the small bathhouse, the current entrance building of the youth hostel was built. The Menno-Kate - Menno Simons' memorial site According to popular tradition, Menno Simons' printing shop was located in the Menno-Kate. The "Fresenburg prints" were published in the last five years of Menno Simons' life (died 1561). Menno Simons was one of its most important teachers and preachers. There is a memorial stone in memory of him on a square next to the Menno-Kate. For the museum rooms prepared in 1962/63, it was gradually possible to acquire works and documents by and about Menno Simons and the Mennonites. Maps, pictures and engravings indicate the birthplace and work of Menno Simons. Other material provides information about the spread and history of the Mennonites. The outside areas of the house and the memorial stone can be visited at any time. Please register for a tour of the museum rooms and make an appointment.
