Pertisau am Achensee is located on the western shore of Lake Achensee, directly at the foot of the Karwendel Nature Park, Austria's largest nature park and one of the most beautiful mountain hiking areas in Europe. Pertisau is home to a main landing stage for the Achensee shipping company, and the renowned Tiroler Steinöl® (Tiroler Shale Oil) is also produced there. It is extracted at the shale oil works in the Karwendel Mountains and then processed into excellent skincare products. At the Tiroler Steinöl Vitalberg (Tiroler Steinöl Vitalberg), the shale oil museum in Pertisau, visitors learn all about the extraction and processing of Tiroler Steinöl. Due to its close proximity to the Karwendel Nature Park, the town is a good starting point for wonderful hikes or mountain bike tours. There are various alpine pastures with excellent food and drink! 😋🍺

The Rofanspitze, the third highest peak in the Rofan Mountains, is an easily accessible and popular summit destination. That is why the rocks are very greasy and therefore slippery in some places.

The Zwölferkopf is 1491 m high. Here you will find the Karwendelhaus with a good kitchen and a lovely terrace. From here you have a great panoramic view over parts of Pertisau and the entire length of Lake Achensee.

The Rofanspitze is the third highest peak in the Rofan Mountains. From up here you have a fantastic 365-degree view. The climb requires stamina and surefootedness. The climb to the summit has a gradient of around 40-45%. We saw some who had neither. We hoped that we wouldn't have to watch one of these people fall. You should also use your hands on the last stretch to hold on to the barren rock. The small plateau at the summit cross is made entirely of rock. You should be aware that you are in alpine terrain throughout the Rofan Mountains and be equipped accordingly (drinking lots, alpine shoes, hiking poles, etc. are highly recommended). From up here you can see not only the Zireiner Lake but also the Gruber Lake. This glows a beautiful turquoise color in the sunshine. On nice days it can get crowded here.

A great hut at 1834m that offers a very tasty Kaspresskndöel soup. It is even more fantastic to enjoy the food/drink on the terrace. The view of the Achensee and the mountains is breathtaking. You can also stay overnight at the hut. It offers mattress dormitories, shared rooms and twin rooms. The twin rooms are booked up very quickly, especially during the holidays. The hut is a perfect starting point for a variety of hikes and climbs in the Rofan Mountains. It is one of the few huts that is open in both winter and summer. The Rofanspitze (2259m) is probably the most famous peak in the extremely interesting Rofan Mountains - even if it is only the third highest. Thanks to the Rofan cable car, the summit can be reached on a hike along well-marked paths. The panorama can't be beat when the weather is good and the many mountain lakes that you pass on the way up and down are great for cooling off on hot days.
